Asharq Al-Awsat: Yemen Rights Group Reveals over 30,000 Child Soldiers Recruited by Houthis

Barbara Schumacher, journalist with the Arabic news channel Asharq News, reported on a virtual session organised by the Yemeni Coalition of Independent Women (CIY) on “Violations against childhood in Yemen“, revealing that over 30,000 child soldiers have been recruited by Houthi militias. Yan St-Pierre spoke on “The post-intellectual recruitment phase, placing children on the front lines”.

German counterterrorism expert, Dr. Yan St-Pierre drew parallels between Houthis and terrorist groups in how they recruit children during times of war, noting that the militias have recently exploited the coronavirus pandemic to close schools and recruit more minors.
