Economic Forum 2018

Yan St-Pierre was invited to participate in two panels at the 28th Economic Forum, which was held on September 4-6, 2018 in Krynica-Zdrój, Poland.

Together with Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica, the Parliament Secretary for Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, and
Tudor Buzatu, the Secretary of State for the Government of Romania, he was one of the panellists on: “Patriotism 4.0 – competitive community or economic egoism of the Regional Groups?”, organised by the Economic Forum of Young Leaders.

The moderator, Bogusław Chrabota, the managing editor in „Rzeczpospolita”, Poland, asked the panellists to discuss the impact of regional groups on current European Community policy, the implementation of innovative solutions for the labor market, economy and cybersecurity at the level of national states, and they strived to answer how the EU can find a balance between the interests of the community and the individual economic ambitions of the member countries and what are the consequences of digitization for the internal politics and the EU security environment? (Yan St-Pierre’s comments on patriotism start at 12:51 min.)

In the panel “A Secure State in a Secure Europe – How to Prevent Extremisms?”, moderated by Michal Karnowski (Member of the Board, Fratria, Poland), Yan St-Pierre discussed together with Hashi Mohamed (Special Advisor to the Independent Reviewer of Anti-Terror Legislation, UK) and Iulia Scantei (Senator, Romania) how in many countries, traditional parties are losing popularity, and groups that postulate some radical solutions are increasingly coming to the fore. The panelists strived to answer questions such as “What role do such groups play in the radicalisation of European politics and how to prevent the spread of extremisms in Europe?”
