On February 24, Yan St-Pierre was the guest of the France 24 program “Focus” to discuss the security situation in north-east Nigeria and Boko Haram.
“[…] the “technical victory” unfortunately is only one that President Buhari and his close advisers see, and unfortunately the threat is still very strong, and by no means are we close to defeating Boko Haram.”
When asked if Boko Haram still has much power in the north-east:
“Unfortunately, it has a lot, because in many places, especially in rural areas, Boko Haram in many ways has become the “lesser of two evils” due to a lack of credibility of the army or the government, and as such, they’re in a position to provide what people feel to be security, either financial or physical.
