At this year’s International Security Expo, Yan St-Pierre presented our ongoing study and key points on current and emerging hostile vehicle attack trends. During the fireside chat, he discussed with the panelists and the audience, how to deal with the new challenges these attacks present for the protection of public spaces.

One surprising finding for many attendees was that terrorism is no longer the main motivation behind the use of vehicles as weapons. More often than not, the attacker’s reasons are personal or unknown and range from being upset about not getting the cookie they ordered at the drivethru or mistaking one group of protesters for another and just driving through them, because they perceive their own entitlement as ranging higher than the lives of pedestrians.
