On May 14, MOSECON was invited to participate in the discussions of the “Sicherheitskultur im Wandel” project held at the Stiftung für Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) in Berlin. Directed by the Dr. Christopher Daase of the University Frankfurt am Main (Germany), this project explores the new meanings of security and its application in the 21st century.
Speakers in attendance included Bettina Gayk of the Ministerium für Inneres und Kommunales of Nord-Rhein Westfalen; former vice-president of the German criminal police (BKA), Jürgen Maurer and journalist Steffen Hebestreit of DuMont publishing.
The conference fueled various interesting debates notably on the practical and theoretical understandings of security, especially in cases such as the mass panic at the Loveparade in Duisburg in 2010 where the theoretical approach clashed with the needs on the field.
This was the closing conference of the three year project and the results of the project can be seen here.
